13 Luxury Fashion Houses With Hefty Price Tags

By  |

According to Brain & Company, the luxury garment market was estimated to be worth $274 billion in 2014 alone and 2015; it jumped to $281 billion. The luxury fashion and accessory segments continue to grow. Just as a small portion of the world’s money is held by a small portion of the population, you can safely assume that there are only a few select luxury brands that bring in the bulk of the revenue.

Fashion and how we accessorize continues to be the way people show their personality and their status. If you have the money, you may as well flaunt it, right? This kind of thinking is thought to describe the wealthy folk’s approach to homes, vacations, and vehicles; but, it also translates into the clothing they choose and the baubles they wish to use to accessorize their outfits with. Here are the most expensive fashion designers/fashion houses that the regular Joe could only hope to afford.

Although Marc Jacobs is still relatively new in comparison to others on this list, he continues to make a name for himself. Before launching his fashion house, Marc was the creative director for Louis Vuitton from 1997 until 2013. Here he was listed as one of Time Magazine’s top 100 most influential people in the world. In the years since he went his separate ways from LV, he has been focusing all of his energy on perfecting his runway show, and by golly, it shows. Right now he is estimated to be worth $100 million, but we are certain that as he continues to refine his look, more and more folk will be jumping on the Jacobs bandwagon.

Like many companies, you’re only as good as your name. Burberry was founded by Thomas Burberry, who lived in Basingstoke, Hampshire in 1856 and even back then, the company specialized in selling high-end outerwear. With their first store opening in 1891, it only solidified the company’s success in the eyes of the public. Fast forward 100 years and the company is as strong as ever. Today, they have several sub-labels such as Burberry London, Burberry Brit, and Burberry Prorsum. Though this luxury brand is based in London, people all over the world can identify the brand because of the signature plaid and khaki trench coats. The beloved brand is coveted by the elite, which is obvious because the company brings in $323 in annual sales.

Among high-end fashion lines, you can’t think expensive luxury brands without thinking about Hermes. This French fashion house has been around for almost two centuries, as it was founded in 1837 and they’ve dabbled in about everything under the sun. In 2008, the brand had 14 segments in its line. They specialized in everything from leather goods, scarves, men’s wear, women’s fashion, fragrance, stationery, decorative arts, and much more. The primary focus for the brand is leather goods, though, as it accounts for 30 percent of their sales. The fashion house brings in $730 million in annual sales.

If you happen to be drawn to avant-garde items, then perhaps Fendi is precisely the fashion house for you—that is if you can afford the hefty price tag. Although the brand began way back in 1925 with Adele Fendi and Edoardo at the helm, it didn’t become a household name until 2001. They are mostly known for their expensive clothing, fur pieces, ready-to-wear garments and perhaps most notably their handbags. The brand made huge news in 2014 by announcing that they would use drones in their catwalk shows. The house is now home to Karl Lagerfeld, and they bring in an estimated $1.1 billion profit each year.
